

Carmen Gamez
Carmen Gamez is the managing officer and heart of Gamez Law Firm, where her “Gamez Law Cares” initiative has invested more than $1 million in the last two years to uplift San Antonio’s underserved nonprofit groups and neighborhoods.
A passionate advocate for children, veterans, seniors and single parents, her transformational giving and hands-on involvement have earned her the Madonna Center’s Pinnacle Award; Ma Hila’s Heart Rebozo and Heart Hero Awards; the Reflejo Benefactora Award; the Girl Scouts’ 2025 Lotería Queen title; and the Christian School of Castle Hills Sponsorship Award.
A San Antonio native, Carmen graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School (’72), earned an associate degree from San Antonio College and a B.A. in Education from UTSA with a bilingual/bicultural focus.
She began her career as a bilingual teacher in Edgewood and Northside Independent School Districts, then made history as the first woman to chair St. Anthony Catholic School’s Board of Trustees and led the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women (1991-1995).
Carmen serves on the boards of the Network for Young Artists, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, University Health Foundation and is honorary chair of the Madonna Center on the city’s Westside.
Beyond boardrooms, Carmen and her husband Joe have seeded scholarships at Sidney Lanier and Incarnate Word High Schools, supported Fiesta’s signature events and provided critical funding for families battling childhood cancer, veterans’ services, and faith-based youth programs.
She lives in San Antonio with Joe and are parents of Joseph, Melissa and Natalie and grandparents of six grandchildren, continuing a family legacy of compassion, generosity and civic leadership.
Joe Gamez
Born the eldest of eight children on San Antonio’s Westside, Joe A. Gamez witnessed segregation firsthand and vowed to fight for justice.
He graduated salutatorian and student-council president at Sidney Lanier High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969, and received his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1973.
After opening his private practice and serving as Brooks County attorney in 1973, Gamez leveraged his legal expertise into a term in the Texas Legislature in the early 1980s. There he authored laws to protect marginalized communities.
Today, his firm – under the mantras “Gamez Law Fights” and “Gamez Law Cares” – has multiple offices across Texas.
Alongside Carmen, Joe fuels scholarships and backs nonprofits such as the Rey Feo Consejo Foundation, the San Antonio Fiesta Commission, the Madonna Center and the San Antonio Coalition for Veterans and Families. He also supports Ma Hila’s Heart Children’s Cancer Foundation, the Network for Young Artists, and awards annual scholarships to Lanier graduates.
Consistently ranked among San Antonio’s Best Lawyers by S.A. Scene and SA Monthly, Joe holds top peer endorsements and “Superb” client ratings on Avvo.
He is admitted to all Texas state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and is an active member of the State Bar of Texas, the San Antonio Bar Association and the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association.
